Chair Yoga

Instructor:  Megan Scott, Ph.D.

This class is developed exclusively for people over 59 years of age. These classes focus on increasing range of motion, improving posture, restoring flexibility, and increasing breath capacity. Designed for those unable to lie or kneel on the floor, participants use standing and seated movements and stretches. Relaxation tools are also taught. For private sessions, call Megan at 383-1393.

Megan Scott Ph.D. is a doctor of integrative energy medicine, sports rehabilitation and clinical psychology specializing in advanced healing techniques.  Dr. Scott teaches yoga at California Pacific Medical Center, Institute for Health and Healing, is a professor and a clinician of pain management at University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.

YOGA WITH WEIGHTS

Yoga with weights is an exercise program based on the book Yoga with Weights for Dummies co-authored by Sherri Baptiste and Megan Scott, PhD. Weights add another dimension to yoga: they stabilize your body and engage you more deeply into the yoga exercises. By combining aspects of traditional yoga with the benefits of weight training, participants will gain all the physical benefits of traditional yoga - strength, flexibility, balance, focus and concentration - more quickly. Participants will notice an increase in vitality and an overall sense of well-being. This class is designed for all levels and abilities. Weights are optional.

Please bring your own weights, mat, block & straps. 1 to 2 pound hand weights and ankle weights are all you will need to begin.

This Thursday evening class starts with a gentle meditation getting ourselves connected to our minds and bodies before beginning the practice. We do  a series of different warm-up exercises for our spines, abdominals, and legs that helps connect to our breath before getting into a deeper flow. The class always has sun salutations to invigorate the heart and build heat in the body, and different balance, twist, and strengthening postures are explored each week. The last portion of class is for restorative postures and different relaxation techniques for the body, the instructor always includes some hands on massage to help us get deeper into the fi nal meditation. If you need a night away from stress for your mind and body, this is the perfect place to come  with a great group of people!

Pamper yourself. Come practice yoga to achieve a deep relaxation. We lead with a series of postures and stretches including focused breath work as part of reducing stress. LYRICAL YOGA™

Lyrical Yoga™ is a joyful and transformative movement practice incorporating the meditative, peaceful qualities of yoga with the expansive, graceful fluidity of dance. Beginning with yoga postures, we open our bodies and cultivate the awareness of our breath and the mind - body - spirit connection, then drawing from the yoga practice, we inspire our dance. Carol Michelson, CYT, is a certified yoga, movement, music and dance instructor. For over 25 years she has studied classical, modern, jazz, ethnic dance and music traditions

Pilates Mat Class

Instructor: Stephanie Cunningham

Learn the essential exercises of pilates practice in this class that focuses on your abdominal/core strength, proper body alignment and overall strength and flexibility of your body’s muscles. This class will incorporate six principles of pilates techniques (centering, breath, precision, control, concentration and dynamic fluid movement). A wonderful way to clear your mind and tone your body. Bring your own mat.

Tai Chi is a wonderful form of exercise for strengthening the body, and for creating body/mind awareness. Tai Chi is a centuries old system of gentle physical exercise that is practiced the world over for health and fitness. Developed as a defensive martial art, today it is practiced for personal improvements in balance, flexibility, circulation, posture, body awareness, and even mood! The Wu style Tai Chi emphasizes gentle movement and inner calm. Everyone is welcome!
