Are you a writer who needs other people with whom you can share your writing and get constructive feedback? Do you like to write, but feel blocked at the moment and don’t know how to start writing again? Have you always thought you could write, but don’t know how to begin? If you can say yes to any of these questions, this is a writing workshop for you. Each session begins with a prompted Rush Writing exercise, followed by sharing writing from each participant that has been written and polished outside of class. We also discuss such topics as editing, rewriting, publishing, performing and controlling tone, mood, tempo and theme in your work.

NEW! EBOOKS AS AN AUTHOR PLATFORM
Instructor: Suzanna Stinnett
This class is for writers learning to publish independently and for authors who have been told by their publishers that they need a “platform.” Creating an ebook and establishing marketing channels builds a strong and well-informed foundation for your platform. Learn why Amazon is a good place to start, how to manage the peculiar review world online, which sites to engage to bump up your book’s presence, and how to create longevity for your books well beyond bestseller status. Whether you want to be more appealing to a publisher or start your own ebook sales, these author platform basics are the first steps.

NEW! EXPANDING YOUR AUTHOR PLATFORM
Instructor: Suzanna Stinnett
Build it and they will come? That’s the mistake many are still making, right before they ask why no one is buying their books. In tonight’s class we create a dynamic outreach system for building a readership for our books. Make the mental shift required to establish your own platform, and use it to be attractive to a publisher while acquiring readers for a lifetime of writing. A basic blog as your “front porch,” a subscriber system, and a social network are the three tools of a dynamic web presence. Learn how they are set up, what you can automate and what you can delegate.

Create a dynamic content series which you can automate and add to as your business evolves. Learn what subscribers expect when they sign up, or “opt in,” as we call it. NEW! FUNDAMENTALS OF PLAYWRITING
Instructor: Graham Gremore
Writing for the stage requires different skills than writing for the page. Develop your ear and your signature of voice as a playwright. Through a variety of unique writing prompts and exercises, we will cover the basic fundamentals of playwriting, including plot, action, character, conflict, resolution, rhythm in dialogue, and developing dramatic tension. New writers (including teens!) and/or writers who have material they would like to explore or adapt for the stage are all welcome. The only requirements are a notebook, a pencil, and a willingness to explore and be creative.
Graham Gremore is a professional writer. In 2005, he was commissioned to write a musical for SteppingStone Theater in St. Paul, MN. He was again commissioned to another musical for SteppingStone in 2008. In 2009, he was a semi-finalist in The Source: 10 Minute Play Festival in Washington, D.C. And in 2012, his solo show “Private Parts” premiered at SF Playhouse to rave reviews. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Playwriting from San Francisco State University, and he is the co-founder and co-director of StoryFarm (www.storyfarmsf.org), a literary arts non-profit in San Francisco.
